Halloween Vest

By whatnottoknit

Why would you bother? A Halloween vest of this complexity for one day? Well, boo to you too then!! The trick’s on you for doing all that work for something so atrocious.

Can you imagine the hours making the colour changes and the blinding chart reading for only one day a year? Well, maybe if you’re insane to begin with.

Thanks to Nicole for this submission!

Good grief! Some kind of warning should have come with this!

  2. Leisel Says:

Well, I suppose you could wear it for a week or two leading up to Halloween… still extremely limited for all that work.

Not to mention… Stacy and Clinton would have to do an intervention if you were ever to complete it.

  3. HydraFemme Says:

Maybe one of your more adventurous librarians might consider wearing this one, just to be festive. . .

  4. sara Says:

ok, gotta be cantankerous. I like it. But I would never make it, I would purchase one already lovingly hand-crafted by some machine. Teachers love this kind of crap…

  5. Lisa Says:

Wow that is complex! It’s not even attractive complex – it’s just complex for the sake of being complex. I never cease to be amazed at the amount of time these designers think we have on our hands.

  6. Tasha Says:

This is perfectly aligned with my most terrifying halloween constume ever: Simply add a white shirt with peter pan color, stirrup leggings, a pair of white keds and the requisite hair bow and you’ve got… terror!

    Great site!

  7. SapphireQueen Says:

All I can say is WOW! Just *looking* at this makes me go insane…..

  8. Double Take Says:

    It’s hideous! (ouch)

  9. minijaxter Says:

someone had WAY too much time on their hands.
and the vest -yeah it hurts my eyes

  10. MoonShine Says:

I think it’s a real hoot! I couldn’t help but howl when I saw it!!!

I don’t do the vest thing but I have neighbor that wears a different one each day. And she is (big gulp) a school teacher! Eerie, huh? Must be something going around…

Oh well, I better quit before the thing comes back to haunt me while I sleep…

I’m a librarian, and l like this vest. Clearly, my MLS degree has sapped my fashion sense away– help me!

  12. HydraFemme Says:

That’s okay, Beezie—we still love you. Remember, admitting you need help is the first and most important step towards fashion recovery. With patience, we’ll get your closet de-fugged; before you know it, you’ll be crowned “Queen of Distraction”!!!

  13. Cheryl Says:

First Grade teachers….kindergarten teachers….they would wear it??
    Size 20 me?? think not.

  14. Maryann Says:

I totally know people who would make this. I’m so disappointed in myself.

  15. Brandy Says:

Will you hurt me if I admit I like the individual motifs? But they need to be separated and on something besides a vest. I have no idea what they should be on though. Halloween dishrags? Hmm…

And incidentally, my mother in law has a thing for holiday/seasonal themed turtlenecks, and she wears the Halloween ones for several weeks leading up to the actual day.

  16. Leisel Says:

Brandy… you’re right. The individual motifs are okay, it’s mostly the volume of them and the fact that they’re on a vest.

It’d be darn cute if you picked a single band of them and used it as the decoration on a tote bag of some sort.

  17. Mary Says:

It’s perfect teacher clothes. I’d wear it all October. That is, if someone gave it to me. Nothing could induce me to do all that work for a sweater vest.

  18. Matt Says:

I happen to really like this. I would wear it for several days around Halloween for several years. It appears to be machine knit, but I would be willing to try hand knitting it.

  19. Skwerl Says:

Somewhere a preschool teacher’s closet is just a little emptier.

  20. Christine Says:

I wouldn’t wear it – or spend the time knitting it – but I think it is rather pretty and a well done design. A little busy for some, but look close at that detailing. That is some pretty impressive work. All that stranding makes me want to cry a little though. That is a lot of color!

  21. pfaffie7570 Says:

While I agree someone put a lot of work into a vest that can be worn for only a short period of time, that’s one reason I have eliminated making decorations for Christmas. As much work as I put into them, and yet only have one month of the year to use/wear them, I decided to focus my efforts on the other 11 months!

  22. GrammaK Says:

Oh well, I knew if I laughed at enough ugly knits and crocheted things, that it would come back to bite me.

Does it help that the sample is kid sized? And that it was part of a seasonal vest collection (3 different charts adapted to one pattern)?

FWIW, it was fun to design, and fun to knit. (all handknit, not machine)

  23. Jilli Says:

If my daughter showed up in school wearing that, she’d be the laughing stock until Christmas. If my son showed up in that, he’d be beaten up.
I don’t like holiday themed clothing, period. Colors, okay. Designs, never. They look cheesy no matter how expensive the yarn.

  24. mamalala Says:

I like it. I would never wear it – not my colors, and I don’t tend to wear holiday-themed clothes. But it looks like it would be a lot of fun to knit.

  25. Heather Says:

Love it! So cute! My 4 year old would go crazy for it. Me, I’d wear it if it were all black with just one band of the cute little ghosts.

  26. Jackie Says:

Ahem!!! I REALLY like this…in fact…I campaigned to get a copy of this…why just wear it at halloween…wear it with pride throughout the year.

  27. Crafty Nature Says:

    THis is way to complicated

  28. Krafty Says:

I love the strips and would like to have the ghosts on something. like the cats too, but it is a bit much all over. I would have machine knitted it.
