Marrakech

By whatnottoknit

The pattern name that’s meant to confuse! This thing must weigh a ton – the model is scrunching up her shoulders and has pain written all over her face. Made out of heavy worsted weight yarn too but the pattern says “fluffy, feminine dress” – uh, duh, that doesn’t go together. I’m not even sure what this is supposed to be either. Any guesses?

Click on the picture to view it bigger – you’ll see what I mean.

EDIT: Oops, guess this isn’t hitting the fug button quite as well as the mohair cat suit! Must be the degrees of fug separation… ;)

i don’t really see what you mean.

    I kinda like it….

  3. Mary Says:

Are we sure that’s not crochet? I suppose if it were in a lightweight yarn (wool? rayon? silk?) it woudn’t be too terrible, but if it’s cotton — HEH-VEE.

  4. Leisel Says:

Not sure about the weight of the thing, but I do think it’s pretty (although I’d want a more modest neckline on the thing).

  5. silja Says:

I like it. Cant see what is wrong with that…

  6. MoonShine Says:

It is crochet… and still a waste of time. Changing materials will be a gauge nightmare and the skirt looks like it may be a two row repeat. If it is, then it skews.

  7. Lisa Says:

Actually, I like the scalloped edging – I think if it were out of bedspread weight crochet cotton, it could make a great summer cover up over a tank top or something. I’m not real crazy about empire waistlines – I’d rather it had a natural waistline or just hung straight.

  8. SapphireQueen Says:

It’s kind of pretty. But the model looks like she has a black eye…….is that what happens when you refuse to wear fug?

  9. CombatGal Says:

They’ve finally perfected the bodice transplant. Now I can sleep at night.

  10. laura Says:

It would take a lot more fug to top the purple mohair catsuit.

  11. Elizabeth Says:

It looks like she is wearing cardboard painted to look like crochet!

  12. HydraFemme Says:

If the sleeves were shorter and the neckline higher and the yarn softer and lighter, this might just have some potential. Hey, I thought it was crocheted, too!

  13. Maryann Says:

Looks like crochet. Huh. Well, worsted weight might not be the best choice, especially since it’s so open, I admit, but umm… that’s all I can think of that’s bad about this. Not my style but it’s okay.

We’re fickle. We’re bitchy. That’s why we’re on your blogs in the first place. Give us funny fugs! Things that simply don’t match your personal tastes do not amuse us.

We want things to make our skin crawl. Mohair cat suits and Halloween vests and squid hats and couch dresses. In short, things that make us feel spectacularly superior to high-as-a-kite designers.

We’re angry, fug-loving people. The only satisfaction for your regular readers is not lacy baby-doll-waisted peasant blouses that happen to be in the wrong gauge of yarn, but certifiable plug-fuggin’-fugly wastes of yarn.

    when good ideas go bad.
If this same concept had been executed in a fine cotton or hemp or linen, it would be quite sweet. In worsted weight, it’s just WRONG

  15. Nadine Says:

I actually like the pattern and would probably wear it, with a few minor adjustments. Does anybody have the link to this pattern? Thanks in advance!

  16. minijaxter Says:

it would be nicer in a lighter weight yarn
but as is it does look heavy and bulky
i had to make the picture bigger to see it.
and no to those who asked it is not crochet thats a knit lace pattern.

I think I know why this doesn’t hit the fug button- it’s the colour. This is in a nice eye friendly pink. Now I ask you all to visualize this in Vomitorium Green or Kity Fecal Mat Brown….there you go- now that’s ugly!

    Thank you very much minijaxter!

  20. Elizabeth Says:

I think this is close enough to Kitty Fecal Mat Brown to be nice and fugly…

  21. Norah Says:

Actually, I’d like the pattern to this…it’s cute, though I agree it’d probably be too heavy in cotton. The bottom part looks crocheted.

  22. Norah Says:

Also, I think she’s scrunching up her shoulders because the neckline is so wide that the sweater is about to fall down her arms.

  23. launi Says:

I like it, but then I like several of her designs. And yes, it is definitely knit:

  24. nihal Says:

only thing i can see wrong is the yarn choice. it is a cute pattern would be great looking with some thinner yarn. and yes it is crochet.

  25. mellykins Says:

I agree the yarn choice is all wrong here. some light weight cotton would have been really pretty or a silk blend, but worsted weight YUCK!

  26. the designer Says:

For Nadine and others who might knit this,

Yes, it is knit and no it does not skew though it does have a 2 stitch fake “seam” along each side. Let me save you some heartache, wool is the best fiber for a skirt or dress because it has memory. If you worked this in cotton or hemp as some have suggested you wouldn’t be able to sit down for fear your butt would sag. And yes, this is a big gauge, but get down to your local yarn shop and check out the yarn it’s worked in (Tahki’s Zara Plus) it’s light and airy nothing like a heavy worsted Lopi or Lamb’s Pride. This dress is super stretchy.

If I ever design a mohair cat suit or turkey hat or any other foul headgear, by all means bitch away.

I don’t like the cutesy ribbon, but I kinda like the dippy hippy look, or what’s called the Bohemian style. I would wear it with jeans, never as a dress.

  28. Susan Gets Native Says:

I came over here from Vicki’s blog.
I have to say that this would not be so bad if it was sleeveless. And made in something other than shipping rope.

  29. Crochet Princess Says:

    I love it.

  30. Knitter Says:

I love this sweaterdress but then again, I am a fan of fashionable girly knits like these. What I cannot abide is some of the painfully trendy crap that hipsters like to knit nowadays like the tea/I-Pod cozies, baby’s first tattoo cardigans with skulls from Stitch n Bitch (LAME!), and the like.

  31. Crafty Nature Says:

    I like this one.
