Baby “Corn” Bunting

By whatnottoknit

Just when exactly would you
want a baby to look like corn?

Thanks Lindsey for sending this one in!

That poor baby’s horrified look says it all.
I didn’t realize that he was supposed to be an ear of corn until I read the description. My first thought was “Why did someone put a baby in an ugly colored tube”? lol

  2. Baraka Says:

I think it’s missing something – like some nice eyelash to serve as the cornsilk that you can never completely remove when shucking corn. Or maybe the hood could use a series of “bunny ears” to simulate the husks. Oh, and you’ve gotta knit a pat or two of butter melting on it.

  3. Soni Says:

It may just be that I am seriously sick, but all I could think about when I saw this is “Really, it’s not child sacrifice…it’s a corn roast!”

Yeah, it’s probably just me. *sigh* Too many youthful years misspent under a revival tent, no doubt.

  4. Shannon Dwire Says:

Oh my. Maybe it’s an ill conceived Halloween costume? That’s all I can think of…

  5. PSBBDesigns Says:

I live in central IL (corn country), and I really think this would be a big hit.

  6. Jilli Says:

I live in Iowa (also corn country) and I can’t imagine any mother would do this to their precious baby, Halloween or any other day! Makes me wonder what’s in the future for this poor lil tyke?

  7. Maryann Says:

The only possible reasoning for this is as a Hallowe’en costume, as has already been said. But it’s a pretty lame-ass Hallowe’en costume. Surely one could come up with something a bit more clever if one is going to go to all that effort?

    Total waste of yarn.

  8. Kathleen Says:

I made that for a friend’s baby, actually. It was ridiculously cute and doubled as a Hallowe’en costume.

Since we dress babies up in rompers and hats and such that look like rabbits and bears and strawberries, I don’t see the crime in doing corn, too. To each their own, I guess.

  9. Hadiza Says:

LMBO = LAUGHING MY BUTT OFF!

I thought it was sooooo funny because the way it looks, the baby does look uncomfortable. Get me off waaaah!

  10. Sara Says:

Hm. My husband did his PhD on corn biology – and since we joke about our kids being our F2 cross, you can bet I would’ve made this for my kiddos if I’d know about the pattern at the time. As it is, I found it online a few years back, and I have it saved in case he ever has a grad student who has a baby.

Corn people would get it. But then, we do have Children Of The Corn….

  11. Waponswa Says:

HAHAHA! It’s just Kitsch enough for me. My kid’s lucky that she’s not a baby anymore, or that would be she in the picture.

  12. Di Says:

Sorry, folks, but I love it. The kitch factor works for me, too! Too funny and what a hoot for Halloween!

  13. crazycatlady Says:

Do you think Ralphie in “A Christmas Story” started out this way? This kid is gonna grow up to want to shoot *someone’s* eye out…maybe with a knitted PEA shooter?

  14. fawn pea Says:

    that thing is terrifying!

  15. Swampcrone Says:

This is somewhat scary and disturbing… something I would have made for DS… kitsch factor alone…

  16. 9C Says:

I think this really is a Halloween costume. I saw a few in a handcrafts store of (microfleece?) baby costumes that to make the baby look like, for instance, a pea in a pea pod…items meant to bundle up your newborn and show off for his/her “first Halloween!” So perhaps this is just a variation on a theme?

  17. Deb Says:

Does it come in an adult version?

  18. wink$y Says:

nobody puts baby in a corn!!

  19. Crafty Nature Says:

no wonder that baby is crying.

  20. cgf Says:

I was lucky enough to have one made for my daughter – it was gorgeous, snug, and hilarious. I have great photos of her (4mths) sitting half asleep on the couch in corn bunting…… The pattern is all in ‘pineapple stitich’ its definately an heirloom!

  21. Ash Says:

I started laughing when I saw this and my 3 yr. old daughter came over asking, “What’s so funny?” “This,” I replied, turning my laptop so she could see. “The baby in the corn?” she asked in her cute little 3 yr. old drawl, an incredulous look on her face. Even 3 yr. olds have better common and fashion sense than that!

  22. Sarah Says:

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
im laughing so hard im crying
    that’s terrible!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Jess Says:

Oh my god no way i think that looks so sweet. I would totally dress my kid in a little corn suit.
