cheaper than surgery?!? fug to fill out all your nipple tops =;)
gotta love the pc factor – but what’s up with the caucasian boob? egg-yolk colored nipple – hugh?

ok, believe it or not, these “woolly breasts,” from page 9 of Simply Knitting, Issue 27, Spring 2007 ARE for a good cause – as teaching tools for midwives and “health visitors” at Liverpool Women’s hospital. so, if you just have to knit FUG, do it for a good cause! =:)
get the pattern from: http://lcgb.org/knittedbreastpattern.pdf
when you’re done with your breasts <behave!> send them to:
Kate McFadden, c/o Neo Natal Unit, Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, FREEPOST, NAT 13868, Liverpool, L8 7BR
(for everyone not happening to reside in the UK…yours truly included…obviously, the FREEPOST portion of the address above won’t work, but if you’ve taken the time to knit some woolly breast fugage, surely paying for the postage is but a minor inconvenience, n’est pas?)
peace & karma points =:)

I just have a reeeeally hard time imagining how they use these for lactation instruction. My first thought was that it would be used to teach breast self-exams–Maybe the knitter hid beans inside for the student to find–but that was just too weird a thought.

Seems people come up with all sorts of “valid” reasons to legitimize knitting body parts.

On the contrary, these i’ll acctually back up. These (also known as Tit Bits) are used for women who have had Mastectomies but find that the prosthetics are horribly uncomfortable. (Some of them are acctually quite painful too) check out titbits.ca for more info on the whole she-bang.

I can’t imagine what they would be used to teach.

They can be used to teach how to latch baby on. Very useful! You can use a lactation-teaching doll, or, as I’ve (seriously – I’m not kidding here) seen one lactation consultant do it, demonstrate with your own mouth. It’s an image not quickly forgotten.
Breastfeeding is natural, but it takes a little know-how. Do you think that if I knit one and send it to the charity, they would mind if I knit another to keep and use as a teaching tool? I am a childbirth educator and I do teach a class on getting started with breastfeeding. I don’t think I’ll demo with my mouth, though.
