Lion Brand’s Fashion Show
Hideous scarves, that awful knit hood thing that I mentioned a while back (and still not paired with the right outfit) and what appears to be a beret made of Fun Fur! Why, it’s the Lion Brand Fashion show hosted by Vanna White!!!!!!!!

That one girl looked so ashamed to be modeling this fug.

Where on earth would one wear a “marshmallow” like hat and matching leg warmers? Hmmm…interesting posting….thanks for sharing.

The audience seemed underwhelmed, on the verge of sneaking out the back door, until the doggies came out. “How cute! Quick, where’s my camera?”
I wish we could have heard the commentary. What can one say about a woman covering herself with an afghan, looking like an out patient?

UGH!
The fun fur beret had matching leg warmers.
There was a giant yarn bobble beret… I’m trying to decide if it was worse, or if the fun fur version was worse. I think trying to make such a decision has clicked the off switch in my brain.
The last model (with the poor puppy) had on pants that were too short. I have problems finding pants long enough for me, but for crying out loud… SHE’S ON THE STAGE IN A FASHION SHOW. They couldn’t even get the model’s real clothes right.
Why are they showing scarves paired with blankets? When in the world do you use both at the same time (”Ladies, this is the hottest new design in long term power outage wear.”)???

I believe Vanna White has a yarn line with LB now. She’s been putting her name to crochet patterns for years, so it’s not too surprising that she’s teamed up with LB. oH and did you notice that the FF beret had matching leg warmers?

“This year’s show featured afghans and accessories” ?
I don’t understand. Dorky hats and kooky jumpers that most people wouldn’t be caught dead in, I understand–that’s what fashion shows are for. But walking out on stage wrapped in an afghan? Why not just have them come out wearing bunny slippers, with toothbrushes in their mouths? Since when is a cozy blankie fashion?

Right after the “Futuristic designs” title card - when the woman in the red dress comes out wearing the many-folded yellow blanket like a scarf - right then - that’s when the coffee stain on my rug happened.

Yikes. It has the set up of Baby’s first fashion show…except if baby was wearing any of that fug, Baby’s parents should be slapped.
On the bright side, some of the afghans were pretty attractive. But it’s pretty hard to fuck up an afghan, isn’t it?
March 12, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Yup, Vanna has a line of LB yarn… called “Vanna’s Choice”. Which for acrylic yarn is fairly decent (none of the squeek factor of Red Heart super saver)

I must say my favorite is the lady holding what looks to be a large green snake. This show was all FUG…what on earth are they thinking?
March 14, 2008 at 1:34 am
So that is one possible fate of the poor little things who don’t win on America’s Next Top Model…
March 14, 2008 at 6:27 pm
the beret paired with that god-awful blanket must be someone’s “im on my death bed with the flu, kill me now” look
March 14, 2008 at 7:22 pm
So, was Vanna’s daughter the girl or the dog?
I loved the woman in the front row fanning herself with a pamphlet while the models were wrapped in multiple layers of hot yarn.
And by “hot” I do not mean “attractive.”

That white fluffy hat reminds me of those “Sno-ball” Hostess cakes. Does anyone know that I’m talking about?
March 14, 2008 at 9:08 pm
My personal favorite is the lady wearing the ginormous green scarf-she looks like she’s being eaten by a snake!!!!!!!
March 17, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Was that one woman wearing an ANACONDA? The whole thing was terrifying. Fun fur legwarmers with matching beret? Ghastly. And that poor child, and dog. It’s cruelty to one and all. I can’t even come up with good snark, it was so bad.
March 18, 2008 at 7:09 pm
OMG, I wonder how much they had to pay those poor girls to model that stuff. The looks said it wasn’t enough. At least one grimace indicated they were chanting “I’m doing this for the money.” And Vanna’s daughter. Poor girl. Wonder if she was thinking therapy sessions in her future.
Afghans as fashion accessories. I never thought of that. I have at least one on my couch that I could use at work. Great for when the office is too cold. Too bad you’d look like a street person. No wonder the models were grimacing.
March 18, 2008 at 9:30 pm
…and they had the nerve to say the styles were “Fashion Foward.” Ha! On what planet?
Well, at least the music for the video was good.
March 19, 2008 at 1:28 am
Why does one need a scarf AND an afghan?
March 23, 2008 at 2:44 am
The model in the pink (red?) dress modelling that green snakey thing, my gawd… not only was that green disaster fugly, but the model seemed to not know what to do with herself!
March 23, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Soo i’m not the only one who thought that looked like a big yellow snake. I thought the fun fur leg warmers were cute though. I might wear those, but then i live several miles from the nearest neighbor as well.
March 28, 2008 at 12:04 am
Hoop skirt?
March 29, 2008 at 12:16 pm
That just got scarier and scarier
The way some of those women were opening those afghans looking like they were flashing people.
April 9, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I just have to say that the majority of the girls looked embarrassed. Why don’t they show things that we as consumers will actually use? I loved the ghans! They were great! The rest of it (including the ’space age’ dress and the python around that woman’s neck) was just not right. lol
April 12, 2008 at 5:38 am
Holy Cow… this falls into the category of “What Were They Thinking?”
Just plain hideous. Lion Brand should be ashamed of themselves! And Vanna, because she now has a line of yarn with LB, is probably under contract to act as if she enjoyed that, even if she didn’t! But to drag her poor daughter into it as well is just horrendous!
I can’t say I’m all too shocked with LB’s designs… If you’ve noticed the last few years their designs have taken a downward spiral. Or perhaps a complete nosedive. It’s a toss-up.
April 20, 2008 at 9:05 pm
That green snake of a scarf is beyond ridiculous… I mean, how impractical is that thing? She couldn’t do anything with her hands but to hold the darn thing!
April 20, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Oooh, ouch, aaack…painful. The music was cool, though.
April 21, 2008 at 6:26 pm
My eyes, my eyes!!
April 25, 2008 at 4:56 pm
I could imagine wearing something like these in a midwinter power failure, but even then I wouldn’t go outside in them. M. J.
April 30, 2008 at 11:32 pm
But what about the black –what?–cocktail dress? Hoop skirt? Clearly no one not being paid to wear it would have anything to do with it! Did they intend to PROMOTE their yarn and knitting with this? A tiny little bit more over-the-top and it would clearly be a send up suited for SNL. Heidi

Thanks, I just come up from the floor laughing. The question about the poor models having to wear this? Easy….. on the “Germany’s next Top Model” show they let them walk down high buildings on the outside vertical like on a catwalk, or make shootings on the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge to test their dedication to the job… SO, those who “survived” all of that that had to show up at Lionbrand…
